West End

No visit to London would be complete without experiencing the distinctive atmosphere of the West End. It is one of London’s most lively areas for shopping, entertainment and culture. As it is a popular entertainment district, there are plenty of dining and drinking options too.

The Theatre

The area is known for its entertainment around Leicester Square and Covent Garden where there are many theaters showing iconic shows and fringe shows. Probably the most famous thing about London’s West End is the theatre scene renowned around the world for its high quality theatre alongside Broadway in New York City.


The West End is known for the vast shopping along Oxford Street, Regent Street, Bond Street and St Christopher's Place for big-brand flagship stores such as Hamleys, Topshop, The Apple Store and Selfridges.  With such a variety of stores, this is one of London’s prime shopping areas. It can get super busy in peak times though so try and go early.

Also when shopping in Soho, you’ll find gems including Liberty of London, and the famous mock Tudor department store. Plus it is close to excellent boutique shopping areas such as Carnaby Street, Berwick Street and Kingly Court.

Covent Garden is a charming area to walk around with smaller West End shopping streets in the area such as St Martin's Courtyard and Seven Dials.


As London’s West End covers a large area, it is best to travel bus tube, bus or taxi. Of course, you can cycle London Cycle Hire Scheme, which is certainly a thrilling and intimate way of seeing the city.

There are lots of underground stations around the West End taking you in all directions. Major stations within the area include Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, and Leicester Square.
