Invention and innovation
Islington is well-known for its buzzy bars and restaurants, but it’s also a historic part of London – Cross Street is one of the oldest in the area. Yet behind its Georgian façade, this home is boldly unconventional. The work of pioneering designers and artists of all eras is celebrated here – ultra-contemporary furniture and quirky antique pieces sit side by side, and there’s a collection of vivid abstract paintings too. There are several convenient workspaces, should the artworks on the walls inspire, or gather friends together in the comfortable sitting room where there’s a modish Eames lounger opposite a vintage desk chair.
Your hosts both work in the creative industries, and spend much of their time at their Spanish retreat. They’re keen on art and design, and see their London home as the ideal place to display their latest fascinating finds.
##A Eureka moment
Crossing the threshold, it’s difficult not to be diverted by the finer details of this intriguing home. But the most exciting discovery to be made here is undoubtedly the magnificent view from the upstairs balcony. Both the Shard and St Paul’s can be admired without losing sight of the comforts of home, too.
